On your mark, get set....

Not going, not yet!

I have felt better today than I have felt in 3 weeks. My appetite is back, I don't feel sick all the time, and my energy is rising! I am still not quite ready to exercise, yet, but I can see myself hitting the trail for a walk by Thursday. I am struggling getting enough water in, and it shows. In my cankles. I mean ankles. So my priority for this week? WATER! And lots of it! I am not going near the scale yet, don't want to see extra pounds of water. A good note though, yesterday at church, three people commented on my weight loss!! Squee!

Watch Lives ChangeTonight was my first official full visit of Mamavation TV and it was awesome. Ladies, you make my ribs hurt from laughing. I am now a huge fan of Carla Binberg, @mizfitonline and Katy Bowman, @AlignedAndWell. Had some great chats about running, shoes for running! You should join in next week!

Thanks for stopping by!

It's water weight, right? Mamavation Monday

Watch Lives ChangeHey everyone! I am so sorry I have been MIA. I visited the ER on Thursday night, and was diagnosed with Colitis and possibly Crohn's Diesase. Yikes. I have been pretty miserable since. Most days my body just would not allow me to eat at all. I have been keeping myself hydrated by drinking lots of water and drinking G2 Gatorade to keep my electrolytes in balance. In the midst of all this excitement, I was accepted into the Mamavation Sistahood!! I am so excited, and as soon as doc says, "GO!" I will be back on my weight loss path. Unfortunately my scale is being very ugly right now and is showing a 6 lb gain. I am hoping this is just water retention. There is NO possible way I gained 6 lbs of fat, I didn't eat enough food in this past week for that.

So my goal for this week is to get back into my regular, non-sick eating habits and start exercising again. Slow and steady wins the race, right?

Mamavation Monday - My very first!

Watch Lives ChangeI heard of Mamavation a few weeks ago when the application was open for Mamavation Campaign 5. I read about, was interested in it, but was too ashamed to put myself that far out there. I don't mind posting my weight, or a picture here and there when I am blogging about my weight, but to post a video, where you could see my double chin swinging in the breeze, hear my southern twang, and possibly see my face turn 5 shades of red... I couldn't do it. But then, on Tuesday last week, I watched a video, Roxy's video. She has the same fears as me! But here she was, "being true to herself" and her video application was so inspiring! Inspiring enough that I want to join the Mamavation Sistahood, and WILL be applying for Mamavation Campaign 6.

So, here is my very first Mamavation Monday Post! Many of you who read my blog probably already know my past struggles. Just for a quick recap: I have been overweight or obese for all of my late teen/early adult life. In 2007, I lost 50 lbs with a popular weight loss plan, then got pregnant in 2008 and gained it all back. I am was an emotional, stress eater. I have been working through a program called The Lord's Table which has taught me to run to God instead of the refrigerator when I am stressed. I began that program on May 27th and lost 11.4 lbs in the first month. I veered off track around the 4th of July, but quickly got back to work. My most recent weight was 275.8 and I am 5'7'', so that puts my BMI at 43.2 or Morbidly Obese.

I want to be in the Mamavation Sistahood, because while I am reaching and when I reach my goal, I feel like my story can help someone. I had a conversation with my husband on how there are so many people going around telling of how they used to be an alcoholic, or a drug addict, but you don't hear as many stories of someone who used to be a glutton. I want to share my story one day. I want to be healthy, that is my main goal, but my little sister is getting married in March of next year, so that leaves me little time to get into a cute bridesmaid dress!

So far the past week of following the Mamavation moms on Twitter and on the Mamavation website has really helped me get motivated! This is the kind of motivation, the partnership, that drives me.

Please accept this post as my pledge to the Mamavation Sistahood!

I'm not going to write as much today, I had a visit to Urgent Care this afternoon and was diagnosed with a severe sinus infection, so I am headed to bed after writing this post!

PLEASE join Krystal and I as we journey to fight the scale and lose weight. We'd love your company!

Neutrogena UltraSheer® Liquid Daily Sunblock - A review and coupon

I received the Neutrogena UltraSheer® Liquid Daily Sunblock right as summer was beginning to bear down upon us. Our UV index was reaching the top of the scale and I knew that sunblock was a must.

The packaging is very attractive, as well as the bottle the sunblock is in. The lid was easy to twist off, and is shaped so it is easy to handle. The spout on the bottle allowed enough sunblock to come out of the bottle without having to squeeze. I never had a problem getting too much out of the bottle.

My first thought when I applied the sunblock was that it was very easy to apply but not oily like other brands of sunblock. I was able to put on my makeup over the sunblock without a problem.

This past weekend my son and I went swimming at the town pool, and I had no other sunblock to use, so I used the Neutrogena UltraSheer® Liquid Daily Sunblock I was provided for this review. I applied it once, and my son and I played in the pool for about an hour, he had no sunburn whatsoever! I am sold!

Would you like to review UltraSheer®, too? Then go to http://www.giantwavepool.com/ultrasheer!
Or get $2 off your UltraSheer® purchase at http://www.neutrogena.com/suncoupon.

Disclosure of Material Connection: I received the product mentioned above for free for review purposes from Tidal Labs. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission's 16 CFR, Part 255: "Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising."

Would you take a minute to vote for my kids?

Blogmania has officially kicked off the first annual Kids of Blogmania Photo Contest! I had to enter my two sprouts, cause, well, they're cute! So please stop by! All you need to do is copy and paste the entry form into a comment. You get one voting comment per day per valid email address. You get extra votes for following the blogs listed, so that's up to 6 votes, (or 3 votes per sprout) per day! I really appreciate your help! :) Click either picture to go to the voting post!

What's your Jebus? 2 Samuel 5:6-9

Last night my pastor (who also happens to be my dad) preached a sermon from 2 Samuel 5:6-9. David had conquered all of Israel except for one little city called Jebus. So King David took his men went to fight the Jebusites and take hold of the city. After conquering the city, they named it the City of David, or what we now know as Jerusalem.

The message that my dad brought to us was that Jebus was like a cancer in the middle of David's kingdom. The Jebusites taunted David as he came to overtake the city saying, "You shall not come in here; but the blind and the lame will repel you", as if David and his army of men were not strong enough, and that even those who were blind, or cripple could fight and win against the Israelites. Our congregation was then asked if we had a Jebus inside of us. Something that was eating away at us, like a cancer. Bitterness, anger, a grudge, gluttony, all of these were brought to the table. Sometimes we have these things held inside of us and they seem to taunt us. We see that these things should not belong, but there is a little voice that says, "You are not strong enough to overcome me," just like the Jebusites did to David and the Israelites. But if we look further in the story, David, DID overcome the city, "Then David dwelt in the stronghold, and called it the City of David. And David built all around from the Millo and inward. So David went on and became great, and the LORD God of hosts was with him". So if we do have a Jebus inside of us, we can see that God of hosts is with us, and with his help we can overcome, and take back what belongs to us.

I have been doing much better with my overeating, and emotional eating, but there are times when I feel like the urge is there. The message last night helped me to realize that gluttony has no place in my life, and even when I do feel as that little voice is there, taunting me, I can rely and God, and remove that "Jebus" from my life!

Independence Day Grilling Recipes and more!

Independence Day is one of my top three favorite holidays. The holiday falls right at the beginning of summer when watermelons taste just right, green peppers are fresh from the garden and there is lots of other produce begging to be grilled, sliced, or just eaten!

Some of my summer favorites! (with recipes!)...

Summer Salad
I visited the Farmer's Market twice this past week, so I have lots of fresh veggies.
4 cups of baby spinach or other lettucs
1-2 cucumbers
2-3  tomatoes
Bell peppers (Yellow, green, red or all!)
1 onion (optional) (I like to use scallions!)

Dressing (or use your own!)
Olive Oil (1 1/2 Tbsp per salad)
Lemon Juice (1 1/2 Tbsp. per salad)
(Mix in fresh chopped herbs optional)

Thinly slice cucumbers, chop remaining ingredients. Combine and top with dressing. Chill and serve.

Chicken Kabobs
Ingredients:
8 boneless, skinless chicken breasts ( I like to buy the Tyson's frozen breasts and let them thaw)
1/4 c. olive oil
2 tbsp. lemon juice
salt (optional)
black pepper to taste
1 lg. green pepper, cut into 1 - 1 1/2 inch chunks
1 lg. white onion cut into chunks
1 can pineapple chunks (optional)
2 tbsp. barbecue sauce
Note: If you are using wooden skewers, be sure to soak them in water for approx. 30 minutes before placing them on the grill to prevent them from burning.

Cut the chicken breast up into small chunks (about 4 or 5 chunks per breast) Combine oil, lemon juice, salt and pepper and pour over chicken in a shallow dish, or put the chicken into a zip-loc baggie with the mixture. Chill for 2 hours, occasionally massaging, or stirring the chicken. Remove your chicken from the marinade and discard. (Some people like to keep it to brush over the chicken while they are grilling, but I would rather not.) Arrange the chicken, green peppers, pineapple chunks and onions on your skewers. Place your kabobs on the grill over medium heat and brush with barbecue sauce. Grill each side about 5 minutes or until the chicken is done.

Turkey Burgers
This recipe comes from a recent turkeyloaf experiment. While eating the "meatloaf" I was thinking that it would be great grilled, as a burger!

Ingredients:
1 lb. ground turkey
2 cans Ro*tel (I like the kind with lime and cilantro) Make sure to drain as much juice as possible
1 1/2 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese
Non-stick or olive oil cooking spray

Combine turkey, 1 can of well-drained Ro*tel, and 1 cup of mozzarella cheese. Shape into four 4 inch patties. Spray grill with cooking spray**.  Place patties on grill over medium heat. Cook 8 minutes on each side or until done. Top with remainder of Ro*tel and mozzarella cheese!

**(Okay this note is for people who may not know, like my little sister... DO NOT spray cooking spray into a heated grill. Cooking spray is flammable! Spray the grill BEFORE lighting the grill, or before placing the racks on the grill!)

Patriotic Parfait (with or without poundcake)
This is a favorite of mine (and my family's) I have made it for a few years at our 4th of July celebrations and it has been a huge hit. If you would like, you could leave out the pound cake (or use granola) and substitute the whipped topping for low-fat yogurt for a true parfait!

Ingredients:
1 pint of strawberries
1 pint of blueberries
1 container of sugar free whipped topping
1 small pound cake

Slice the pound cake into 1/2 inch thick slices. Slice strawberries. Layer the ingredients like this...
Pound Cake, whipped topping, strawberries, whipped topping, blueberries, whipped topping, pound cake. You can make the layers as thick or as thin as you please!

Watermelon
1 lg. seedless watermelon

Slice and eat!

Tip the Scales Thursday - What goes up, must come down

It's been one of those weeks! I didn't have any terribly bad food mistakes, but I was just kinda struggling all week long. Then last night I found out that my calorie counting app I use was still calculating my daily caloric intake based on my weight a month ago! So I ate roughly 1800 calories more than I was supposed to this past week (and the week before which explains my low losses!) So needless to say, this week was not a loss. But at least it was not a huge gain. But like I titled this post, "What goes up, must come down!" Next week I am looking forward to a 2 lb+ loss!

Last week
276.5

This week
 277.8 (+1.3lbs)

No time to dwell on the past, I have to start today to make next week an awesome weigh in!
As always, thanks for stopping by and please leave a comment! :o)
